Cooperative Relationships with Academic Institutions

Triton Imaging has a long-standing relation with academic institutions around the world. In cooperative arrangements with educational institutions, Triton has been able to develop and further improve our system applications. We remain committed to supporting educational institutions because they provide invaluable insights into future technology trends and are the training location of the next generation of earth scientists.

Academic institutions offer a unique environment for assessing advanced technologies and developing new techniques for analyzing data. Triton has been able to provide the scientific community with the advantages of commercial-off-the-shelf products, yet keeping an open architecture concept to interface with the institutions' own scientific developments. Triton’s support of academic endeavors has developed in the following applications:

Involvement in scientific and research programs

When research institutions started using Triton software, it was evident that development would have to take into account the sophisticated requirements of scientific research. Isis® SS-Logger™ is a good example of how the product development was tailored to the application of shallow seismic research. Isis® Sonar™ and TritonMap™ are also used in many institutions, with users providing valuable feedback on better ways to render marine geophysical data. Institutions are now focusing more on GIS environment and TritonMap™ provides the bridge from raw data to geo-referenced data for geographical and database analysis.

A recent example of the interaction between academia and Triton is in the field of habitat mapping. Our SeaClass™ application is being used by groups conducting these sorts of studies while concomitantly being developed around ideas stemming from such research.

Support of educational and teaching programs through partnerships

Triton has participated in many educational programs. This participation can take the form of a Triton expert providing classes around modern survey technology or we can discuss your needs and find an arrangement for your training laboratories. Students and researchers are exposed to the latest technologies developed by Triton and receive important industry insights by our experienced engineers.

As examples, the MATE Center at Monterey Peninsula College operates Isis® Sonar™ with their sidescan sonar and teaches mosaic building with TritonMap™ in their classes. The Ocean Sciences program of California State University Monterey Bay uses Isis® Sonar™ on their survey boat and uses Survey Office™ in their laboratory. Texas A&M curriculum uses Triton Products in both their research field work and laboratory teaching curriculums.
