The following information applies ONLY to software issued after December 2004, (Isis v6.8) prior to that the system was different, licenses and dongles issued prior to December 2004 will NOT work with later Triton software.
The system uses a combination of a Hardlock Key (Dongle) and a license file.
When any Triton application runs it first trys to get a number from the hardlock key. It then looks in the [LicenseFiles] folder that was created when the Triton software was installed, for a matching License file, the options that are allowed to run are programmed into the License file. The default location for that folder is:
All license files must reside in this folder so that the programs can find them.
The licenses issued by Triton are binary files, they are not text files, you cannot open them with a Text editor, the files are read directly by the programs.
Dongles should all have a number either written on the outside or attached to a key ring, the number is referred to as the "System Number" - the full system number is
YY-NNNN
Where YY is the year and NNNN is the number. The second group of 4 numbers is the number that is programmed into the dongle or hardlock key. On older systems that were built by TEI or Triton the system number will be stamped into the metalwork at the rear of the box.
All license files have the extension .lf. As noted above you cannot read the file with a text editor. The name of the file can be anything, and you can rename it if you wish, however when the license is issued the name will reflect at least two things:
1. The system number (usually 4 digits)
2. The version of the software that will be allowed to run.
For example a license file with this name:
5678v71.lf
Will be for system number 5678 and will allow all software versions up to and including v7.1.999.999, it will NOT however allow software version 7.2.000.000 to run.
You may come across licenses with much longer names such as:
5678_MosiacBasic_4200_v71.lf
the actual name is not important, at least as far as the software is a concerned.
The version number of the release is taken from the version number of the Isis program that went with that release.
In an emergency or for demo purposes timed licenses can also be issued. These licenses are keyed to a particular PC and will allow the software to run on that machine only for the period defined in the license. Please contact Triton Imaging for details: Sales or Support
If you need a temporary license because you lost or damaged your dongle, please have your system number ready.
There are several types of dongle in circulation, two types of parallel port dongles and two types of USB dongles. All dongles use the same driver from Safe Net Inc. it is called "Sentinel Protection Installer v7.5.0"
Check in Add/Remove programs, if the driver is installed you will see this entry:

Of the two older parallel types only the dongle called a Sentinel Super Pro is supported, there is an older dongle called a Sentinel Scribe which may still work, however if you have one of these please get it touch with Triton and get it replaced, see below the two types:

All recent dongle have been of the newer USB type - any of these will work.
The only dongle driver that is required for any of these dongles is the Sentinel Protection installer v7.5.0
Download it from here:
The driver is also supplied on any recent Triton Imaging Distribution CD in the following folder
<CD Drive>\Extras\Drivers and 3rd Party Applications\Sentinel Driver
To install, simply double click the Setup.exe found in that folder, when you reach the Custom Setup dialog do not install the two services, only the USB and Parallel drivers:

*****PLEASE SEE BELOW NEW INFORMATION REGARDING NETWORK LICENSING*****
Install the driver BEFORE connecting the dongle (see below) then simply connect the dongle to the system while it is running - there is no need to re-boot.
NOTE at the time of writing this driver does NOT get installed with the installation software, if you are installing Triton's software on a new machine or updating an older machine you should check that the correct driver is installed.
NOTE: it seems that if the PC you are using has a parallel port, even though the dongle is a USB type and you are not using the parallel port - YOU STILL NEED TO INSTALL THE PARALLEL PORT DRIVER!
Since the introduction of the latest Sentinel Driver from Safe-Net there is now support for two new features:
1. Operation of Triton Software under Windows Remote Desktop (RDT)
All Triton Programs now support this feature, you must have a v7.3 license and the Triton Software version number must be v7.3.355.0 or higher.
2. Limited support for Network Licensing
Provided all machines are on the same local network then a dongle that is attached to ANY machine on that network is accessible by any other machine on the network
To use this feature you must enable the "Sentinel Protection Server" and the "Sentinel Keys Server" when you install the driver.
NOTES:
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR USERS OF TRITON SOFTWARE FOR DATA ACQUISITION (NI 6601 and 4474 BOARDS)
The service uses UDP ports 6001 and 6002. Those ports are also used by the drivers for the NI boards and also some side scan sonar servers. Triton do NOT recommend using network licensing for systems that are used for data acquisition.
The following only applies to Windows and a USB dongle.
You MUST install the correct dongle driver BEFORE connecting the USB dongle.
Failure to do this usually results in Windows installing an incorrect driver that will not work. Not only that but when you try to install the correct driver you get a message that a newer driver is already installed.
The solution to this problem is to download the Safe Net cleanup program, it is available here:
Run the exe and then reinstall the correct driver.
Isis, SS-Logger, MB-Logger and TritonMap create a file called LicenseDump.txt in the [LicenseFiles] folder, it contains much information about the Licenses on the machine and also about the dongles that are connected. If you are unable top solve your problem after reading this Guide please email that file to:
The newer product Triton Perspective handles licensing in a different way, there is a file called licdump.txt that is created in one of the Windows user folders; the actual folder varies depending on the operating system, however under Windows XP the file can be found here:
C:\ Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Triton Imaging,Inc\Perspective
These folders are usually hidden so access licensing information you should look under the Triton Perspective Help>Licensing menu:
