Getting started with S57 charts in Triton Map

The latest release (Jan 2006) of Triton Map includes the ability to use S57 format charts as a background layer. You will need a dongle and a license from SevenCs

http://www.sevencs.com

The following description assumes that your system has neither the Seven Cs software nor Triton Map installed:

Install Triton Map

From the Triton CD locate the folder:

\Programs\TritonSuite\Full or \Min

Double click the .MSI file, follow the default prompts.

Install Dongle Driver

From the Triton CD locate the folder:

\Extras\Drivers and 3rd Party Applications\Sentinel Driver

Double click the file Sentinel Protection Installer 7.5.0.exe

You can also download the latest driver from the Safe-Net website:

http://www.safenet-inc.com/support_and_downloads/download_drivers/sentinel_drivers.aspx

See also these instructions on Dongles and Licensing

Follow the prompts, note that you should remove any USB dongles that are connected and re-connect after installing the driver.

Install the Seven Cs programs

On the Seven Cs CD you will find a program called ECK541_WINNT.EXE, double click to install the software, follow all defaults. The installation includes the sentinel driver - BE SURE TO INSTALL THE 7Cs DONGLE DRIVER - we have found that the dongle requires this driver (you will end up with two installed versions of the Sentinel driver but that seems to be OK!)

Note that we are installing the sample charts, the default location for those charts is:

C:\usr\local\data\S57

Copy Triton License

Copy your Triton license file into this folder on your system:

C:\Program Files\Triton Imaging, Inc\License Files

NOTE: You MUST put your Triton license in this folder

Copy Seven Cs license

Copy your Seven Cs license into any convenient folder. In the following description the license file is copied into the same folder as the Triton license, but this is not essential.

Connect the Sentinels (Dongles, Hardlock keys)

You must connect both your Triton Sentinel and your Seven Cs sentinel, both may be USB sentinels or the older Parallel /Printer port sentinels, the Rainbow driver will work for both types. You will need at least 2 USB ports if both are USB type.

Start Triton Map and Load a sample Chart (and Register the Seven Cs license)

Start Triton map from the Start menu short cut, it should launch and display a blank window with no messages about missing licenses:

Click on Settings>All Settings and then the S57 Settings Tab:

Set the Path for the SENC folder by browsing to the SevenCs folder:

C:\usr\local\data\S57\SENC|

And the Path for the Seven Cs Presentation Library (LIB_7CS)

C:\usr\local

Hit OK to return to the Main Triton Map window.

Go to Project>Import>Import an Image Background, click the … button and select S57ENC (*.000) file from the sample files folder at:

C:\usr\local\data\S57\ENC

Choose the file 7C3D001.000 and click Open.

In the Insert Background layer dialog Projection Settings Click the Change button.

Next Select Universal Transverse Mercator for the Projection>Next

Select Zone 32 (6E to 12E) and North Hemisphere>Next

Select WGS Datum (1984)> Finish

Since this is the first time we have loaded an S57 chart the Seven7Cs registration dialog will open:

At this point you will need to open your 7cs license file; recall that we located this file in the Triton License file folder C:\Program Files\Triton Imaging, Inc\License Files:

The Seven Cs license is a normal .TXT file and will open with Notepad

Enter your registration key (RK) from your license file and Click Register.

Enter your Second Registration Key (RK2) and Module Key (MK) numbers in the second dialog box. Click Register again.

If all is well you will be returned to the Triton Map Insert Background Layer Dialog where you should see the dimensions and NW corner of the S57 chart correctly displayed:

Hit OK

In the next dialog select Universal Transverse Mercator > Next

In the next Select Zone 32 (6E to 12E) and Northern Hemisphere > Next

In the next Select WGS Datum (1984) > Finish

The chart should display in Delphmap:

To display other charts you will need to know which UTM Grid Zone they are in. The SevenCs chart handler program in conjunction with the SevenCs documentation will allow you figure out which charts you need and the UTM zone.

The Chart Handler program is installed with the Seven7cs software.
