TargetPro Update Guide

Overview

The latest version of TargetPro (May 2010) v7.3.548.51 has some other important enhancements when using TargetPro in a Post Processing mode.  Please follow these links:

The July 2007 release of Triton's software includes some important changes to the TargetPro application.  See the TargetPro manual on the release CD for details of previous versions and general usage.

There is no change in the way the application is launched, either double-click on the Contact in the waterfall window or launch from the Tools>Target menu.

The following guide details these features and how to use them

TargetPro reads the XTF file.

This change is mostly transparent to the user, however in order that TargetPro can work the XTF file must exist, you cannot create a Contact unless the logging program is writing (or playing back) an XTF file.

Measuring a Contact

The older method of selecting which dimension (Length, Echo, Shadow) is to be measured is still available, however by default TargetPro expects that the user will measure Length, Width and Shadow in that order, the user needs only to click and drag for each dimension, TargetPro now defaults to Measure mode:

In order for the shadow measurement to be valid it must start beyond the the width (Echo) measurement and be in the correct direction.  In the above image the contact is on the starboard channel, therefore the shadow must be measured to the RIGHT of the contact.

Important information is highlighted: Position, Width, Length and Height.  NOTE: for the object's height and position to be correctly calculated the altitude must be correct; Towfish altitude is also highlighted.

A note about the "width" measurement

Because it is not usually possible to see the boundaries of the object on the side away from nadir the width measurement may only be possible on the visible or ensonfied part of the object, hence it is also referred to as the "Echo" measurement.  In the image above the size of the object has been inferred from its visible shape and the width measurement adjusted accordingly.

Setting the size of the image.

This dialog is called from the Tools menu in either SS-Logger or MBSS-Logger (Isis)

These settings will have to be determined by the user, however the settings shown are typical for a sonar set to acquire data on the 100m range (the image will be one quarter the size of either sonar channel)

Image smoothing

To turn this option on go to the Tools>Configuration menu and select the Smooth checkbox :

Example of image smoothing:

Unsmoothed image                                                                     Smoothed image

Meter Bar (Scale Line) option

From the View menu choose the Meter Bar option:

The default position and color for the meter bar is the center of the image and black, to modify Right click on the bar in the image:

Choose the preferred position, style and color for the bar.  To make these be the defaults for all further contacts check the Set as Defaults checkbox.

Using ELT (Electronic Light Table)

Click the ELT button on the toolbar, make whatever image adustments are desired, when done click Apply To Large Image.  Return to the main TargetPro window and Hit Save As, choose the preferred image type (.JPG, BMP, TIF) and Save.
