Triton software is continuously in development, upgrading current features as well as adding new functionality to meet the changing needs
of the survey community. Currently most of our software development is focused on adding new functionality to our Perspective data processing software,
however we also are adding new sonar interfaces to our Isis data acquisition software for multibeam, sidescan, and combined sidescan/subbottom systems.
Listed below are some of the new capabilities added to our software.

New Target Utility |
| |
Developed completely new target utility that builds small mosaics of the target area from the
raw data. Building mini mosaics improves image quality and increases position accuracy by using
processed navigation to determine the location of each ping. This new utility uses the same Color
and Histogram image enhancement tools used throughout Perspective. Measurements can be quickly made
for determining the size of captured objects, with drop down classification options available.

New Patch Test Utility |
| |
Built new patch test utility inside Perspective for quantifying GPS Latency, Roll, Pitch, and Yaw
biases within the measure mounted angles and offsets for the acquisition system. Our new patch test
supports both single and dual-head systems, as well as interferometric sonars. It works by looking
for the minimum differences between 2 survey lines in the selected area using 'area' differences
instead of just along a profile 'line'. Selecting a good area for each phase of the patch test is
assisted by showing a DTM of each survey line on a separate map view.

Mosaic Combine Methods |
| |
Added ability to combine overlapping data using a root mean square (RMS) algorithm to improve results. Combining
data to create a mosaic in Perspective occurs three times. The first option to select is how to combine overlapping
survey lines, the second option sets the along-ping downsampling method to reduce the data density and increase processing
speed, and the third option is for combining overlap pings within a single line. The image shown here includes examples
using MAX, MIN and RMS for all three option, plus a fourth image using the mosaic defaults (RMS, MAX, RMS).
|
|
|
|
| |
File Tree Layer Manager |
| |
This new capability allows users to perform two functions. For individual grid or mosaic files, this tool allows
the user to remove multiple survey navigation lines from a grid or mosaic file. For managing layers in the file tree,
the Manage Layers tool provides the user with the ability to re-order or remove multiple layers within a particular file
tree node. Currently this capability has been added for Imagery file trees (DTM, CUBE, Sidescan) and
for the Background/Geotiff file tree. The next release will include this capability for User Annotations,
Features, and Vector file tree layers.

Reson S7K Snippet Processing |
| |
Significant changes were made to Geocoder for processing footprint time series "snippet" data from Reson S7K data files. If snippet data is
present in the S7K files, it will be written into the GSF files for processing in Geocoder. By using the GSF files for processing the snippet
data, soundings that have been flagged as 'bad' by the user during manual data cleaning will be excluded from the final snippet mosaic producing
cleaner results than starting with the raw unprocessed data files.

Navigation Inserter |
| |
To support external processing of navigation and motion data as well as supporting "topless" AUV data acquisition systems, Triton
has developed a tool in Perspective to allow the user to insert selected navigation and/or motion data from an ASCII text file into
raw or duplicate XTF files. While it is possible to process navigation in Perspective, occasionally more advanced
processing algorithms are needed. This is especially true for correcting navigation drift in AUV surveys performed without an LBL
navigation system.

New Release - Version 7.6 |
| |
Significant changes were made to Perspective in the latest release, primarily related to sidescan processing. The biggest change was a
redesign of the Mosaic Wizard, with new pages added to accomodate the new options and filters. Options for navigation processing have
been made more intuitive and user friendly, both from the file tree and in the processing wizards. Click the image to the right for a
detailed list of the changes made.
|
|
|
|
| |
Bottom Tracking Improvements |
| |
Several new options were added to the bottom tracking module in Perspective including: auto-track from bathy nadir for combined MBSS sonars and
interferometric sonars, works from the file tree for tracking all lines at once or from the bottom tracking dialog on a single line; across-track zoom for more
precision with manual bottom track corrections; slant range correction in the bottom tracking dialog; and a position link between the sidescan waterfall window
and the bottom tracking module.
|
|
|
|
| |
Mosaic Topo Corrections |
| |
Typical sidescan mosaics assume the seafloor is flat, and base the ground range from the sonar on the altitude of the towfish and the
slant range (or time). When the seafloor is sloped or there is an object on the seafloor, the altitude below the towfish is no longer
the same across the swath and errors in position are introduced. In this new release of Perspective, there is an option in the Mosaic
Wizard to select an existing DTM in the project to use for correction the mosaic for changes in topography.
|
|
|
|
| |
Moving Average Filter |
| |
For sidescan data that is grainy or contains noise, a moving average filter can help delineate objects or features seen in the
imagery. On the Filters/Corrections page of the Mosaic Wizard, there is a new option to apply a moving average filter and to set
the filter dimensions.
|
|
|
|
| |
Mosaic Range Clipping |
| |
New options have been added to Perspective's Mosaic Wizard for clipping the range of the sidescan record. Inner and outer boundaries
can be clipped by meters (formerly only by %). A new option was added to set a maximum
range from nadir for producing a cleaner mosaic from data that changes range during a survey line (such as Reson sidescan data). Also
added ability to clip the sidescan record based on towfish altitude for compliance with NOAA 2012 Hydrographic Surveys Specifications
and Deliverables.
|
|
|
|
| |
Snip/Constrain by Heading Change |
| |
A new constrain option was added for creating sidescan mosaics or bathymetry grids based on the amount of curvature in the survey line. This tool
works in both the Bathy & Mosaic Wizards to constrain the extent of the grid or mosaic that is generated, and also in the Snip Line tool to allow
users to snip the survey line based on curvature, or just to test the different parameters to determine what numbers to apply in the processing wizards.

Export Navigation to CSV |
| |
For advanced navigation processing, Perspective allows the user to export navigation data from each raw data file to CSV formated files for external
processing using MatLab or other scripting languages. This is very useful for recalculating AUV survey lines based on known start and end points. Once
the navigation data has been reconstructed, it can be reloaded into the raw data files using our NAVinXTF utility. Also for
viewing survey navigation lines in third-party GIS software, Perspective can export navigation lines as DXF polylines.

GeoTiff Tiled Export |
| |
To increase the resolution of exported GeoTiff files, it is possible to tile the export into smaller higher resolution GeoTiffs. Tile sizes
can be automatically set by choosing the number of tiles to create, or the tile size can be set manually to meet specific project requirements.
This new tiling capability is implemented in the imagery exports from the bathymetry grids or sidescan mosaics, and also for the map composite
exports for including background images, loaded vectors and feature files, drawn annotations, targets, etc.

Multiple Map Views |
| |
For simultaneous views of overlapping layers in Perspective, users can now open new map views of the same location. Each map view
can be set to sync with the primary map display extent and scale. This is very useful for comparing bathymetry grids with corresponding
QC layers, comparing repeat surveys, viewing the same object in overlapping sidescan lines having different shadow directions, and many
other applications.

Waterfall Annotations |
| |
For advanced navigation processing, Perspective allows the user to export navigation data from each raw data file to CSV formated files for external
processing using MatLab or other scripting languages. This is very useful for recalculating AUV survey lines based on known start and end points. Once
the navigation data has been reconstructed external to Perspective, it can be reloaded into the raw data files using our NAVinXTF utility. In
addition to the ping location in XY and lat-lon coordinates, included in the CSV export is the sensor motion data and time of the ping. Also for
viewing survey navigation lines in third-party GIS software, Perspective also can export navigation lines to DXF files.
